TX ORB Sniper (Free TradingView Indicator)

A free TradingView indicator that constructs NY session opening ranges and detects breakouts so you can execute systematic opening range breakout trades with integrated risk management.

  • Dynamically constructs NY session opening range using 1-minute data
  • Projects range onto higher timeframes for decisive breakout detection
  • Shows "ready" candles + two-stage signal flow + real-time risk/reward boxes

Who it's for:

  • Intraday futures traders who want systematic ORB execution around cash open
  • Traders who need multiple ORB modes (V1-V4) for different risk profiles

Not ideal for:

  • Swing traders (this is intraday-only, focused on opening range)
  • Traders who want signals all day (this is time-bounded to opening hours)

What you get on the chart

  • Opening range lines: High and low of NY session opening range (constructed from 1-minute data)
  • "Ready" candles: Gold candles that signal when price is approaching range boundaries (preparation phase)
  • Range cross lines: Visual markers when price crosses above/below the range
  • Risk/reward boxes: Real-time TP/SL visualization that extends until trade completion
  • ORB mode indicators: Visual distinction between V1-V4 modes (different risk models)
  • Money management table: Position sizing, risk percentage, and stop distance (top-right)

How to use it

Best timeframes

Works best on 5m, 15m, and 1h charts. The indicator projects the 1-minute opening range onto your chart timeframe for breakout detection.

Best markets

Optimized for ES, NQ, CL, GC, and YM futures. Works on any liquid futures contract with a clear NY session open (9:30 AM ET).

Default workflow

  1. Wait for NY session open (9:30 AM ET) - indicator constructs opening range automatically
  2. Watch for "ready" candles (gold) as price approaches range boundaries
  3. Enter on confirmed breakout when price closes decisively above/below range
  4. Use risk/reward box to manage position (updates in real time)
  5. Trade closes automatically at target, stop, or session end (4:00 PM default)

Common mistakes

  • Entering on "ready" candle instead of waiting for confirmed breakout (two-stage flow)
  • Trading after session end (indicator is time-bounded, signals stop at 4:00 PM)
  • Taking multiple signals in same direction (one-and-done session logic - only one long and one short per session)
  • Ignoring the money management table (position sizing is critical for risk control)

Settings guide

ORB mode (V1-V4)

V1-V3 = standard risk models. V4 = compressed stops for aggressive scalping. Choose based on your risk tolerance. Default: V1.

Target timeframe

Timeframe where confirmed entries occur (after "ready" candle on chart timeframe). Higher = fewer but stronger signals. Default: 15m.

Money management mode

Fixed dollar risk, risk-percent, or fixed lot. Fixed dollar = consistent $ risk per trade. Risk-percent = % of account. Default: Fixed dollar.

Session end time

When trades automatically close (4:00 PM default). Adjust for different session lengths or early close days.

Maximum position size

Cap to prevent over-leveraging. Set based on account size and risk tolerance. Default: No cap (use with caution).

Examples

Example: Clean breakout above range

Example showing clean breakout above NY session opening range

Opening range forms from 9:30-9:45 AM. Gold "ready" candles appear as price approaches range high. Price closes decisively above range—confirmed long signal. Risk/reward box extends in real time. Trade closes at target for 1:2.5 R:R.

Example: ORB mode comparison (V1 vs V4)

Example showing difference between V1 and V4 ORB modes

Same breakout setup, different modes. V1 uses standard stop placement (wider, more room). V4 uses compressed stops (tighter, higher risk/reward but more aggressive). Choose based on your scalping vs swing preference.

Limitations / what it's NOT

When it works: Clear opening range formation, during liquid NY session hours, when breakouts are decisive (not choppy), when one-and-done logic aligns with your trading style.

When it fails: Choppy/range-bound opening hours, during low liquidity (holidays, early closes), when range is too tight (no room for breakout), during news events that break structure.

What it doesn't claim: No "guaranteed breakouts" or "100% win rate." This is a systematic framework—you still need risk management and discipline. It doesn't execute trades automatically.

Repainting: Opening range construction uses 1-minute data and is non-repainting (once formed, it stays fixed). Risk/reward boxes update in real time as price moves—this is intentional for live trade management.

Why we built this

Most ORB indicators either show the range but don't help with execution, or they generate too many false signals. TX ORB Sniper solves this with a two-stage signal flow: "ready" candles for preparation, then confirmed entries only when price closes decisively beyond the range.

The one-and-done session logic prevents overtrading—you get one long and one short per session maximum. The integrated money management eliminates guesswork on position sizing.

Best paired with: Mike's ORB Signal Pro (for 15-minute ORB variant) or TX Price Action (for structure context).

Version History

v1.1 (Dec 6, 2025)

Initial release with NY session ORB construction, multiple modes (V1-V4), two-stage signal flow, and integrated money management.

FAQ

What makes TX ORB Sniper different from other ORB indicators?

It dynamically constructs the opening range using 1-minute granularity and projects it onto higher timeframes, ensuring precise breakout detection. The two-stage signal flow (ready candles + confirmed entries) and multiple ORB modes (V1-V4) provide flexibility for different trading styles.

How can I use this indicator with my trading strategy?

Wait for NY session open (9:30 AM ET). Watch for "ready" candles as price approaches range boundaries. Enter on confirmed breakout when price closes decisively above/below range. Use the risk/reward box to manage your position—it updates in real time until trade completion.

Does the indicator repaint?

Opening range construction uses 1-minute data and is non-repainting—once the range forms, it stays fixed. Risk/reward boxes update in real time as price moves (this is intentional for live trade management).
